Veeze Discusses Ignoring Trends for 2023 Album Ganger

Veeze’s Musical Journey

The Detroit rapper shares how he has improved his creative process and crafted his 2023 album, Ganger.

Veeze is known for doing things his own way. He’s always trusted his gut and never felt like he had to follow trends or jump on popular beats.

“I don’t follow trends, that’s just how I make music,” Veeze told Rolling Stone’s Delisa Shannon backstage at Lollapalooza. “It was totally the opposite. If things were going like this over, certain trends going on in the culture, I’mma go [this way]. It don’t matter.”

Even though Veeze has always been independent, he said he’s become more active in the studio recently. When asked about the difference in his process from 2019 to 2024, he admitted, “Back then I used to be kinda lazy. But I love rapping… I’ve fallen deeper in love with the craft and want to be better than I was the last time.”

It’s interesting how artists evolve over time.

Talking about his album, Ganger, Veeze explained why he scrapped an earlier version of the album and started over. “I like to feel like it’s a project, not just a list of songs,” he shared. “But I gotta get that feeling. I gotta rap that feeling… Each song was a different thing — a different mood, different vibe, different environment. But it is important, to me, to [get] to the point where it feels good, and I know my fans are gonna feel the same way.”

Veeze also mentioned some of his favorite rappers, his bond with Sexyy Red, and even added that if he were in politics, one of his policies would be to make hating illegal.
