Tito Jackson Dies After Medical Emergency in New Mexico

The Police in Gallup, New Mexico

Gallup police have shared what happened before Tito Jackson died Sunday night. He had a medical emergency near American Heritage Plaza mall and was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead at 70.

An officer close to the mall called for an ambulance after hearing someone needed help. “The individual was subsequently transported to a local hospital in Gallup, NM, where he was pronounced dead,” the statement reads. “Following this, the hospital requested the presence of detectives and the Office of the Medical Investigator.”

Tito was on a road trip when this happened. The cause of death is still unknown, and an investigation is ongoing. “Investigators are actively interviewing witnesses and examining both physical and electronic records,” the police said. “The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may evolve as additional evidence is gathered and analyzed.”

We all feel so sad about this news.

Tito’s sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ, shared their feelings online. “We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken,” they wrote. “Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.”

Earlier this month, Tito performed with his brothers Jackie and Marlon in Surrey, England, which turned out to be their last show together. They also visited a memorial in Munich for their brother Michael. “We’re deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy,” Tito wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”

Born as Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana, Tito had moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, recently. He leaves behind his brothers Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, and Jackie; sisters Janet, Rebbie, and La Toya; and their mother, Katherine.
