The-Dream Seeks to Dismiss Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Producer The-Dream has asked the court to throw out a sexual assault lawsuit, calling it fake and hurtful.

Known for creating hits with many big names, The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, says he had a brief, mutual relationship with Chanaaz Mangroe and never harmed her. He argues in court papers that her claims are entirely false and disconnected from reality.

In June, Mangroe accused him of using his fame to lure her into a violent and abusive relationship full of physical and emotional mistreatment. She says they met in 2014, became close in 2015, and alleges that during their time together, he forced her to drink too much, choked her, and filmed their intimate moments to blackmail her.

“Choosing to speak out about the trauma I survived has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life,” Mangroe stated. “Ultimately, my silence has become too painful, and I realized that I need to tell my story to heal.”

Fans often wonder if they will ever know the full truth.

Gesteelde-Diamant counters that Mangroe reached out to his friend first, offering money to meet him. He says she initiated their short-lived romance, but when he ended it, she continued to pursue him. His legal motion includes screenshots of text messages from Mangroe, some being flirtatious, suggesting she was still interested even after their breakup.

The motion also shows more texts, including one from last year where Mangroe thanked his childhood friend for the studio time. Gesteelde-Diamant’s lawyers describe her complaint as a “shotgun pleading,” meant to confuse and overwhelm him, making it hard to respond properly. They call it an insufficient legal attack.

“The Complaint weaponizes destructive racial stereotypes against Diamant that he and others have faced — and tried to overcome — their entire lives,” the motion said.

Mangroe’s lawyer, Doug Wigdor, who has represented others against big stars like Sean Combs and James Dolan, said, “the Dream’s arguments seeking to dismiss Plaintiff’s allegations are wholly unpersuasive. We look forward to opposing the motions and proceeding to discovery in this case.”
