“I’m fine and the prognosis is amazing,” he wrote at start of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, “The mad axe murderer knocked on the door and we didn’t answer”.
Roger O’Donnell’s Health Update
Roger O’Donnell from The Cure shared on Saturday that he’s been battling a tough and unusual lymphoma for the past year but is now doing well with an optimistic outlook.
A Year of Treatment
The announcement was made on social media to highlight Blood Cancer Awareness Month, a year after his diagnosis in September 2023. He admitted he ignored symptoms at first but eventually sought help, leading to a shocking biopsy result.

For the last 11 months, O’Donnell has been treated by top specialists using both cutting-edge immunotherapy and century-old drugs. The final part of his treatment included radiotherapy, one of the earliest cancer treatments.
Fans, it’s crucial to get tested early if you suspect something might be wrong.
Encouraging Early Testing
Having joined The Cure in 1987 and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019, O’Donnell missed the band’s Latin American tour due to unspecified health reasons last November. Now, he wants people to take their health seriously and get tested early.
“Cancer CAN be beaten but if you are diagnosed early enough you stand a way better chance, so all I have to say is go GET TESTED, if you have the faintest thought you may have symptoms go and get checked out,” he urged.
His final words were hopeful: “I’m fine and the prognosis is amazing. The mad axe murderer knocked on the door and we didn’t answer.”
