Teddy Swims was getting his hair cut when he found out he got a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2025, so he quickly called his dad.
“Alright! Hot dog!” shouted his dad on FaceTime, while Swims’ team celebrated loudly in the background. Swims, overwhelmed, said to his dad, “I’m freaking shaking right now, I’m so pumped.”
His dad, trying not to cry, told him, “Look what you’ve done, baby. It’s amazing. I’m so proud of you, baby. You made it all happen, son. I’m proud of you. Yup, you did it. That’s cool as shit, son.”
Fans love seeing moments like this because they feel real and inspiring.
Swims is in the running with other new artists like Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, and more.
In a heartfelt post, he mentioned that his dad is always the first person he calls. He thanked the Academy, calling the nomination the “biggest privilege.”
“I can’t stop crying! Thank you for letting your boy pursue this dream!” Swims wrote. Being with his best friends when he got the news made it even more special, saying there’s no better team or label anywhere.
He added a sweet note to his supporters: “To all you sweet sweet people reading this, thank you so much for believing in and pushing a fat boy from Conyers, Georgia! I love you sooooo much! It’s a good day to be us!”
Swims’ year has been amazing due to his album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy. “Lose Control” became a massive hit, reaching 1.3 billion plays on Spotify, with other popular tracks like “The Door,” “Hammer to the Heart,” and “Some Things I’ll Never Know.”
During the summer, Swims shared with Rolling Stone about how he trusts his instincts, explaining, “I started, from then on, listening to my gut. If I feel something stirring in my spirit, I avert immediately. I talk about things when they happen; I don’t swallow things. I just trust my gut. And that’s all you can do.”
