Stevie’s Message to Young Voters
Stevie Wonder is asking young folks to step up and vote in the next presidential election.
He joined the #SpeakYourVote campaign, sharing a video where he urges, “Please be brave enough to speak your vote.” In this clip, there’s a short instrumental tune that people can use to create their own version on TikTok or Instagram Reels with features like “Duet” and “Remix.”
Dr. Arvizu, who started #SpeakYourVote, said young people don’t like all the fighting; they want to find common ground, which Stevie invites them to do with his heartfelt track. The press release mentions that 113 million young voters are eligible, making up nearly half of all voters, but not many of them show up to vote. This movement aims to mix art with activism to change that.
We think it’s awesome how music and voting can come together for something important.
Fans can join the fun by checking out the #SpeakYourVote challenge on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Lately, Stevie has been talking about the election a lot. At his Madison Square Garden concert, he shared some political thoughts, saying, “I want you to show me a picture of people eating dogs and cats.” He believes that being a leader means living in truth, and America is great because of its diverse people.
Earlier, he backed Kamala Harris in a political ad, saying, “I was excited about Kamala years before people knew who she was,” and he feels positive she will become president.
In August, he spoke and performed at the Democratic National Convention, urging everyone to “choose courage over complacency” with his song “Higher Ground.”
Harris has loved his music for a long time. In 2019, she said that his album “Songs in the Key of Life” was her favorite ever, and she even wished him a happy birthday, calling him a “living legend and longtime hero of mine.”
