Sophie Ellis-Bextor Welcomes 2025 with Dance
Sophie Ellis-Bextor celebrated the new year by hosting a special disco event on the BBC, featuring duets with Jessie Ware and Jake Shears.
Several clips from the night made their way to YouTube, showcasing her famous “Murder on the Dancefloor” performance. She teamed up with Ware to sing “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie,” originally by Baccara.

Shears later joined her on stage for Scissor Sisters’ track “Filthy/Gorgeous,” which fits perfectly since the group is planning a tour soon.

The special also brought in Emily Roberts and the Mark De-Lisser Singers as guests. On social media, Sophie expressed her joy, saying it was a “privilege” to host, adding, “I’ve seen many a new year in with the @bbc on as Big Ben chimes so I really see it as the biggest honour my band and I got to ring in 2025 with whoever was watching. If that was you, thank you.”
Fans love how she makes each performance so memorable.
Interestingly, the disco special was recorded earlier, so she also performed at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve event in Times Square, alongside other stars like Carrie Underwood and Jonas Brothers.
Back in October, Sophie released “Freedom of the Night,” her first new song since “Murder on the Dancefloor” became popular again after being featured in “Saltburn.” Her latest album, “Hana,” came out in 2023.
