Adele took her Las Vegas residency to Munich, performing at her specially designed stadium, Adele Arena.
Performing the first of 10 shows in Germany, Adele also made this her first non-UK European concert since 2016. She treated fans by adding “Chasing Pavements” to her setlist, a song she hadn’t sung live since 2017.
Before singing “Chasing Pavements,” she told the audience why she stopped performing it. The track, from her debut album 19, was her breakthrough hit.
Adele said, “The reason I don’t sing this song very often — and I shan’t sing it again after this Munich residency — is because the way I pronounce the words in this song when I was 19 years old, I sound like I’m 19 years old, and when I sing it now, I still sound like 19 years old, and it annoys me.â€
She added, “But I’m going to do it now because I love you, and again, the Germans have always been very, very loving to me. But I’m only going to do it if you do it with me.â€
After “Chasing Pavements,” she performed “All I Ask” from her 25 album, a song she rarely plays live. It had only one performance during her Las Vegas residency.
Once the Munich shows are over, Adele will head back to Las Vegas for the final dates of Weekends With Adele, which end in November. She mentioned wanting a “big break” from music afterward. “I don’t have any plans for new music, at all,†she shared. “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.â€
I think it’s good for artists to take breaks sometimes.
