Sean Diddy Combs Appeals Bail, Vows Drug Testing

Sean "Diddy" Combs was denied bail despite his promises to take weekly drug tests and avoid contact with certain people.

Judges Andrew Carter and Robyn Tarnofsky thought Combs was too much of a flight risk and a danger to the community, so they decided he should stay in custody. After the court decision, Combs left wearing the same tracksuit bottoms and black T-shirt from his arrest.

On September 30, Combs’ legal team filed another appeal, although it didn’t mention any new reasons for his release.

In a letter sent on September 17, prosecutors said Combs had been contacting victims and witnesses, sometimes manipulating them with false stories.

Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, proposed a $50 million bond backed by Combs’ Miami mansion, his mom’s condo, and passports belonging to him and his daughters. He asked the court to trust Combs, showing steps he took to prove he wasn’t a flight risk.

However, Judge Tarnofsky cited the seriousness of the charges and Combs’ anger issues as reasons to deny bail. She said, “Your lawyer asked us to trust you – [I don’t think] you can trust yourself.” The judge also mentioned that his lawyer couldn’t control him.

The next court hearing is on October 9.

Agnifilo suggested additional restrictions to make sure Combs wouldn’t pose a danger or contact victims if released.

Sometimes, we just want to see things work out for everyone.

Prosecutors kept mentioning Combs’ alleged drug use, claiming police found pink powder in his hotel room that looked like drugs. Similar substances found at his mansion tested positive for ecstasy.

If released on house arrest, visitors to Combs’ home would be limited to family, caretakers, and friends not involved in his case. No women outside family would be allowed, and visitors would have to sign a log checked by the court daily.

After the decision to keep Combs in custody, Agnifilo told reporters they would keep fighting. “Mr. Combs is a fighter. He’s going to fight this until the end. He is innocent,” he said. “We’re going to fight this case with everything we have.”

This post was updated on Sept. 30 to include Combs’ second bail appeal. It was previously updated on Sept. 18 to reflect the denial of Combs’ bail appeal.
