Scowl Releases New Single and Video Special

“Special” is a Wild Ride

Kat Moss calls "Special" a kamikaze, and Scowl is here to shake things up with their latest video just as the spooky season rolls in. Moss explains that the song’s lyrics challenge listeners by asking, “What do you really want?” while she tries to answer her own question: “What do I really want?” Her conclusion? She wants to feel alive.

A Thrilling Introduction

Scowl’s new single, "Special," marks their first release with Dead Oceans. It’s produced by Will Yip, who also worked on their EP Psychic Dance Routine, and mixed by Rich Costey. Imagine No Doubt but with a sinister twist—that’s what this track sounds like. The video, directed by Silken Weinberg, is a horror movie brought to life.

Games and Sacrifices

In the video, the band starts off playing a wild game they once mentioned in a magazine interview. Roll a die, and if you get a six, throw it at the nearest band member. Kat Moss remembers, “There were dice flying everywhere!” Guitarist Mikey Bifolco added, “It was the most obnoxious game.” Things then take a strange turn when Moss draws the shortest straw, signaling her sacrifice by her bandmates wearing creepy masks. She steps into the shoes of the Final Girl, ready to face whatever comes next.

Fans might think this is one crazy story.

Scowl’s Rising Star

Since they began releasing music in 2019, Scowl has been gaining attention. They’ve caught the eye of artists like Post Malone, opened for Limp Bizkit at Madison Square Garden, and nearly sold out their headline tour across the U.S. With their last EP released in 2023 and this new single, they’re poised to start an exciting new phase, continuing to surprise everyone.
