Robbie Williams’ Song Disqualified
A song by Robbie Williams called “Forbidden Road” has been removed from the Oscars’ shortlist for Best Original Song because it sounded too much like another song.
The tune was meant for his new movie with a monkey twist, but it got disqualified because it used parts of a song that weren’t originally made for the film. The Oscars have rules that say songs must be written just for movies. While chatting with a reporter at the Golden Globes, Robbie didn’t seem too upset.
He said, “Listen, the rules is the rules, and you have to go by them,” and joked about how he could skip another party since he’s shy. Then, he added, “I went through it, I’m on the other side, it’s all good.”
Fans think it’s a bit sad when artists miss out on big awards because of rules.
The Academy didn’t say it at first, but later, they confirmed the song sounded a lot like Jim Croce’s “I Got a Name” from 1973. This older song was made by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel, and funny enough, Charles Fox helps make decisions at the Academy.
Even though the song couldn’t win an Oscar, it still got nominated for a Golden Globe, but it lost to another song called “El Mal.” Meanwhile, the movie, “Better Man,” came out in some theaters around Christmas and will show everywhere on January 17, 2025. Directed by Michael Gracey, the movie is a little odd since Robbie is replaced by a CGI chimpanzee, although he still does the voice.
