Sting Surprises Fans with Rare Performance
After a long time, Sting decided to play “I Burn for You” during his weekend concert in Toronto.
At Massey Hall on September 21, he slipped the song into his set list. This track, originally from his band Last Exit before the Police, caught some fans off guard. They quickly recognized it when the guitar started, and then everyone got excited when Sting began to sing.
Though Sting played this song at soundchecks in Paris and Budapest in 2022, the last full concert performance was way back in 1990 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Back in the Seventies, Last Exit first recorded “I Burn for You”. The Police re-recorded it in 1981 for the movie Brimstone & Treacle, but it never made it onto a Police album. A longer version was later included in the 2022 picture disc reissue of Ghost in the Machine and also appears in the new Synchronicity box set.
Fans are always happy when artists revisit old songs; it makes concerts special.
Sting, along with drummer Chris Maas and guitarist Dominic Miller, recently kicked off their North American tour. They have more shows in Toronto on September 24 and 25, and the tour will continue through October, ending with four shows in Los Angeles in November.
