Unexpected Drama at Jane’s Addiction Concert
Jane’s Addiction’s concert in Boston came to a sudden halt when Perry Farrell punched Dave Navarro on stage.
During “Ocean Size,” Farrell, looking upset for some unknown reason, walked over and bumped into Navarro, then yelled and punched him.
“What the fuck?” Navarro asked as crew members held Farrell back. Even Eric Avery tried to help calm things down, but the show ended early with only 11 songs played.
According to Variety, tensions had been rising since their first tour together in 14 years began in August. Navarro often looked frustrated with Farrell’s long speeches, and Farrell drank a lot of wine during shows.
Fans must be wondering if this drama will affect the rest of the tour.
Earlier issues didn’t hint at what happened in Boston. JamBase reported that the problems started during “Mountain Song” and continued through “Three Days,” finally exploding during “Ocean Size.”
Jane’s Addiction has stayed silent about the fight, and Avery hasn’t mentioned it on Instagram. But Farrell’s wife, Etty, shared her thoughts online.
What Went Wrong?
“Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members.. the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit,” Etty wrote.
She explained that Perry had been frustrated for nights because he felt the band’s loud volume drowned out his voice. His tinnitus and sore throat made it worse, and when fans complained they couldn’t hear him, he snapped.
Etty also revealed that Avery put Perry in a headlock and punched him backstage. “Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour – he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried,” she added.
Liam Gallagher chimed in on Twitter, saying, “There attitude stinks.” When a fan joked about a similar incident happening during an Oasis reunion, Liam replied, “I don’t think so we’re very professional these days we’re go blow your minds.”
The tour is still set to continue in Bridgeport, Connecticut, with the final show planned for October 16 in Los Angeles. This tour brought Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and Stephen Perkins together after Navarro’s battle with long Covid.
