During a concert in Manchester, Paul McCartney brought back his festive hit from 1979 for the first time in six years.
Holiday Magic on Stage
Paul doesn’t exactly rival Mariah Carey when it comes to holiday tunes, but he has his own way of spreading Christmas cheer. At a Manchester show on Saturday, he delighted fans with a rare performance of “Wonderful Christmastime.” For this special occasion, some young talents from the You Should Be Dancing Theatre Academy joined him on stage. It’s not often that he plays this song live; in fact, he’s only done it about a dozen times throughout his solo career.
Watch the memorable performance here:
The previous time Paul shared “Wonderful Christmastime” with a live audience was in 2018. Back then, he played it during three December concerts in England. Before that, he performed the track during a visit to The Tonight Show in December 2016.
More Shows to Come
There are still three more concerts before Christmas where McCartney might play this holiday classic again. He’s set to perform once more in Manchester and twice at London’s O2 Arena. These events offer more chances for fans to enjoy one of Rolling Stone’s all-time greatest rock & roll Christmas songs.
Fans love it when musicians bring out their festive songs during the holiday season.
On his Got Back tour, Paul has also surprised audiences by debuting the Beatles’ “Now and Then” live. Plus, he teamed up with Jack White and St. Vincent for an epic jam session on “The End.”
In a world filled with surprises, sometimes music creates the most unexpected joy.
