The Surprising Performance of Nick Cave
Nick Cave unexpectedly sings Burt Bacharach’s "What the World Needs Now Is Love" on the new soundtrack for Joker: Folie à Deux.
This song is part of a musical mix that also has "Slap That Bass" and "Get Happy," but you won’t hear his voice on those tracks. Known for deep, emotional songs about loss and finding redemption, it’s interesting to think Cave likes Bacharach’s music. Even if it feels a bit odd with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga dancing around Gotham City, he might agree that more love is necessary, just like in his album Wild God where he says, “We’ve all had too much sorrow, now is the time for joy.â€
People probably need songs like this to feel better sometimes.
Cave has been busy this year with soundtracks. Earlier, he worked with Warren Ellis on the song "Song for Amy" for the film Back to Black, about Amy Winehouse, and they also made the score for the movie.
Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of Back to Black, shared, “Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black,†adding that she’s long wanted to work with them, and their music made the movie’s story even deeper and more emotional.
