Monica Will Release Debut Country Album ‘Open Roads’ in 2024

Monica’s Busy Year Ahead

The rest of 2024 is set to be super busy for Monica as she’s gearing up to release two new albums.

Monica Dives into Country

One of the albums is a country record called Open Roads, according to Variety. Brandi Carlile, known for working with artists like Joni Mitchell and Tanya Tucker, is producing it. Monica said, “I realized there are no limitations to what we can do and Brandi Carlile told me, ‘Monica, stop waiting and I will help you.’ Since then we have been working nonstop.” This project has been in the works since 2022.

Two Albums Coming Soon

She first hinted at Open Roads that same year and confirmed its completion in 2023. During a live show last year, she explained the delay by saying, “life just keeps life-ing.” Alongside Open Roads, her R&B album MDA, formerly called Trenches, is also ready.

Sometimes, I think it must be tough juggling so many projects at once.

Reuniting with WME

Monica is releasing both albums while reconnecting with WME, the talent agency she started her career with. She said, “I’m truly excited about this full circle moment to reconnect with WME since that’s where it all started for me with my debut album, ‘Miss Thang!’ I’m grateful, humbled and immeasurably thrilled about the possibilities of this reunion!”

Spotlight from Other Stars

This reunion couldn’t come at a better time. Monica’s music has been getting attention from stars like Halsey and Ariana Grande. Grande’s song “The Boy Is Mine” from Eternal Sunshine was a tribute to Monica and Brandy. A remix released this summer featured both artists, bringing the tribute full circle. Last month, Halsey dropped “Lucky,” which mostly references Britney Spears but also includes Monica’s “Angel of Mine.”
