Miley Cyrus Discusses Controversial 2009 Teen Choice Awards Performance

Miley’s Onstage Moment

Miley once recalled a time when her mom, Tish, suggested something that led to quite the buzz.

During a chat with her sister Brandi on a Spotify show, Miley talked about her memorable 2009 Teen Choice Awards performance of “Party in the U.S.A.” with an ice cream cart and pole. This was one of those times when folks thought she was being too grown-up in her show.

“Guess whose idea that was?” she asked Brandi, who knew right away it was their mom, Tish. Miley chuckled, “Yup, that was my mom’s idea. So she always lets me take the blame,” she continued, “When I got in trouble the next day, you know who was nowhere to be found? Tish Cyrus.”

But for Miley, what she really remembers isn’t the pole but wearing real diamonds on stage for the first time. It was more about the bling than the cart for her.

She also shared in a TikTok that the pole was mostly there for balance, not to shock everyone.

Miley explained her mom thought it’d be fun if she performed like she was from a trailer park, which is where they’re from.

“So, yeah, I danced on the ice cream cart with a pole, but it was just to keep steady,” she laughed. “I had heels on! What did you want from me?”

Some old magazine once asked if Miley was becoming the next Britney, and she said, “Hopefully! If God is good!”

Fans often find these stories both entertaining and relatable.
