Megan Thee Stallion is stepping into the world of documentaries with her debut film, In Her Words, which will be available on Prime Video right around her Hottieween event.
Directed by Nneka Onuorah, who also worked on Lizzo’s series Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, this documentary spans nearly two hours and delves into Megan’s journey from a rising star to a hip-hop sensation.
The film promises a rare glimpse into the real Megan, showing her life behind the stage lights—her battles with fame, personal loss, and the triumphs that have shaped her.
In 2019, Megan’s career took off with "Big Ole Freak" from her Tina Snow EP, and she followed it with the massive success of her mixtape Fever. But that same year, she faced heartbreak when her mom, who was also her manager, passed away. Just two weeks later, her great-grandmother died, leaving her with immense sorrow.
Despite these challenges, she kept pushing herself, even earning a degree in health administration. In 2020, as everything shut down, she released "Savage," which Beyoncé remixed, leading to Grammy acclaim. That year, she also dropped "Girls in the Hood" and teamed up with Cardi B for "WAP."
However, amid her success, Megan also had to deal with being shot by Tory Lanez. In August 2023, he received a 10-year sentence after being found guilty of shooting her. The incident put her through intense public scrutiny, but she remained resilient. "I was very scared that I was not able to be Megan Thee Stallion no more," she confided in 2022.
She expressed, “I’m trying every day to get through it and be good. I feel so bad because I don’t feel like anybody’s taking me seriously, but I don’t want them to see me cry. I don’t want them to know that I feel like this, because I don’t want them to feel like, ‘Oh, I got you. I’m breaking you.’”
Fans really hope this documentary lets everyone see the true story of Megan’s strength and spirit.
It’s fascinating how someone can go through so much and still keep making amazing music and inspiring others.
