The Latest Twist in the Wu-Tang Saga
Martin Shkreli is clueless about how many people have copies of the unique Wu-Tang Clan album.
In June, PleasrDAO, which got the album from him in 2021, took him to court for $4 million. They say he made and shared copies of the album that was supposed to be one-of-a-kind.
As the court case goes on, a judge told him in August to give up any copies, digital or not, of the rare album.
This week, Shkreli said he gave away all his copies, but he’s pretty sure others have it too, though he can’t remember who they are. He mentioned, “Because I shared the musical work several times several years ago, I cannot recall each and every time that I have shared the musical work.” It’s like he thinks people who saw or heard the music online might’ve kept a copy.
Fans wonder how such a unique album ended up being copied and shared.
PleasrDAO’s lawsuit says he broke the deal by keeping a copy. It lists times he seemed to say he played the album on streams or made copies. Like on June 30, 2022, he said, “Of course, I made MP3 copies, they’re like hidden in safes all around the world… I’m not stupid. I don’t buy something for two million dollars just so I can keep one copy.”
The lawsuit also mentions more recent words from him, including tweets where he boasted, “LOL I have the mp3s you moron†and “I literally play it in my discord all the time.†It even talks about a YouTube video from May where he joked about sending copies to many girls, laughing about how much attention the album got him.
