Musical Tribute for Robbie Robertson
On Thursday night, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum will host a special music event for Robbie Robertson.
Martin Scorsese is taking the lead as director for this star-studded tribute, which will eventually become a concert film for fans to enjoy later.
Musicians Gather for a Special Night
Back in July, they announced “Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson,” promising performances from artists like Trey Anastasio, Elvis Costello, Warren Haynes, and more. The event will also feature veterans from “The Last Waltz,” including Eric Clapton and Van Morrison.
Initially, Scorsese was just going to help produce, but on Wednesday, we learned that he would be directing the film too. This decision comes almost 48 years after he filmed The Band’s famous farewell show.
Fans might find it exciting to see such a big-name director taking the reins for this tribute.
Remembering Robbie Robertson
Robertson passed away in August 2023 at 80 years old. Scorsese shared his heartfelt memories, describing him as a “closest friend” and a vital part of his life. “I could always go to him as a confidante. A collaborator. An advisor,” Scorsese expressed. “I tried to be the same for him.”
In a touching piece for Rolling Stone, Scorsese honored Robertson’s contributions as a songwriter and music producer for many films, such as “The King of Comedy,” “Casino,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
The bond between Scorsese and Robertson was more than work; it was about friendship and trust.
