Omar and Cedric: A Musical Journey
A film about Omar and Cedric’s incredible music journey is coming to theaters on November 20th, thanks to Oscilloscope Laboratories. This documentary, directed by Nicolas Jack Davies, tells the story of two friends and bandmates who have been part of bands like The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In. It uses thousands of hours of footage collected by Omar.
A Glimpse Into Their World
A new trailer reveals a peek into their lives and decades-long friendship. Their bond, full of love, has faced challenges, showing how even the closest friends can hurt each other but find a way back together. It’s a story many can relate to in their own lives.
A thought-provoking question is raised: “When the human connection falls apart, is that really success?”
Behind the Music
The film gives us a closer look at their creative process, especially with At the Drive-In and the birth of The Mars Volta. They embraced their cultural roots and created something unique, loved by fans. Fans love seeing how the bands grew, changed, and sometimes broke up.
We think this documentary will help people understand their journey and struggles better.
“We understand people will have direct questions for us, but we just point them to Nick’s film which holds all of the answers,” says Omar. He believes the film explains things better than they could themselves, inviting everyone to watch and decide for themselves.
More Than Just Musicians
Omar adds, “We are grateful to Nick and his film, for treating us as people and not as objects.”
Even if you’re new to their music, their personal stories of facing racism, addiction, and betrayal are powerful. Cedric’s wife, Chrissie, accused Danny Masterson of rape, adding another layer to their story. They both found redemption despite many challenges.
Davies shares, “A good friend of mine said he watched the film and it made him think about all of his past relationships, which to me was the best thing anyone can take out of it.” He sees the film as a love story between Omar and Cedric, highlighting the ups and downs of staying connected over a lifetime. Their extraordinary journey is deeply human.
