Mariah Carey Update After Family Loss

At the end of August, Mariah Carey shared that her mother and sister both passed away on the same day and asked for some privacy to grieve.

After the deaths of her mother and sister, Mariah Carey is back to practicing for her upcoming shows. She let everyone know about her loss in late August and asked for some time alone. “Back at work,” Carey posted on Instagram. “It’s been a couple of rough weeks.”

The post came with a video where she sang a simple version of “It’s Like That” from The Emancipation of Mimi. “We’ll see you soon China,” she said before walking away from the piano. On X (formerly Twitter), she posted another video performing “I Wish You Knew” from the same album, dedicating it to fans in China and Brazil, where she’ll be performing soon.

These upcoming concerts are her first since sharing the sad news about her family. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” she told Rolling Stone. “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Earlier, Carey wrapped up the second part of her Celebration of Mimi residency in Las Vegas, which will start again in January 2025. Meanwhile, she’s set to perform in Rio de Janeiro on Sept. 13 at Rock in Rio and in São Paulo on Sept. 20 at Allianz Parque. She’ll also headline two shows at Beijing Workers Stadium in China on Sept. 15 and 16.

Fans really feel for her during this hard time.
