Mariah Carey Kicks Off Holiday Festivities
Mariah Carey’s powerful voice is perfect for bringing joy to the holidays, so she started Netflix’s first NFL Christmas Gameday with her famous song “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
Dressed in a shiny red outfit, she sang in a snowy scene while clips of old Steelers and Chiefs games played on the screen, featuring fans at home and a surprise from Kevin Hart.
The festive show comes as her holiday hit stays at Number One for the third week straight, setting a 17-week record, even longer than her earlier hit with Boys II Men, “One Sweet Day.”
While the Chiefs took on the Steelers at 1 p.m. and the Ravens faced the Texans later, pop lovers mainly tuned in for her. Beyoncé will wow everyone with a halftime show debuting new music. Pentatonix will also sing the national anthem for the Ravens-Texans game.
Carey shared her excitement: “This Christmas, we all get our wish,” she said. “The NFL is live on Netflix. And I’ll be there, too.” She just wrapped up her Christmas Time tour across North America, celebrating her album’s 30th year.
“I was very young and was just starting out and I felt like people do Christmas albums later in their lives,” she told the Associated Press. “But now people have started to do them whenever, like right at the top of their career. So, I mean, what was I feeling like? I was a little bit apprehensive and then I was like, ‘I love this.’ And I decorated the studio and just had the best time.”
Fans probably can’t wait for more holiday magic from her next year.
