Madonna’s Brother Christopher Ciccone Dies at 63

Madonna’s Brother Passes Away

Christopher Ciccone, Madonna’s younger sibling, has passed away at 63.

His representative, Brad Taylor, shared that Christopher died on a Friday in Michigan after fighting cancer, with his husband Ray Thacker by his side. According to People, he left this world peacefully.

"My brother Christopher is gone," Madonna expressed online. "He was the closest human to me for so long. It’s hard to explain our bond. But it grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo. We took each other‘s hands and we danced through the madness of our childhood."

The siblings had a special connection, even working together early in her career. Christopher was a backup dancer in her "Everybody" and "Lucky Star" videos. He also played various roles on her tours, like art director for the Ambition World Tour and as a production designer and tour director for The Girlie Show.

Fans understand how tough losing a family member can be.

"My brother was right by my side," Madonna continued in her heartfelt message. "He was a painter a poet and a visionary. I admired him. He had impeccable taste. And a sharp tongue, Which he sometimes used against me but I always forgave him. We soared the highest heights together. And floundered in the lowest lows. Somehow, we always found each other again and we held hands and we kept dancing."

Besides working with his sister, Christopher was a creative spirit who wore many hats: interior designer, music video director for stars like Dolly Parton and Tony Bennett, artist, shoe designer, and author of a memoir titled Life With My Sister Madonna. This book gave readers a peek into their complex relationship.

"The last few years have not been easy," Madonna shared. "We did not speak for sometime but when my brother got sick. We found our way back to each other. I did my best to keep him alive as long as possible."

She added, "He was in so much pain towards the end. Once again, we held hands. We closed our eyes and we danced. Together. I’m glad he’s not suffering anymore. There will never be anyone like him. I know he’s dancing somewhere."

Christopher’s passing follows the recent death of their stepmother Joan Clare Ciccone, and their birth mother, also named Madonna, who died in 1963 from breast cancer. Their oldest brother Anthony also passed away in 2023.
