James Murphy quickly put an end to rumors about LCD Soundsystem’s new album after the Primavera Festival hinted it was coming soon.
What’s Really Going On?
So, there’s a mix of good and bad news for those who love LCD Soundsystem. They’ve just dropped their latest track, “X-Ray Eyes,” but don’t get too excited about a new album just yet. Although the Primavera Festival made it seem like one was on the horizon, it’s not exactly around the corner.
In October, fans got a surprise when “X-Ray Eyes” played out of nowhere on an NTS Radio show. Afterward, it showed up on the band’s website, and by Friday, it hit streaming platforms everywhere.
A few days later, there was buzz from the Primavera Festival. They announced that LCD Soundsystem would be rocking the stage in 2025 and bringing along a new album—their first since “American Dream” back in 2017. But James Murphy jumped online to set things straight.
Murphy shared that “X-Ray Eyes” is just the start of something bigger—a new album—but it’s still a work in progress. He said, “It’s the first single of what’s shaping up to be a new album. Don’t ask me when that is, because we’re still working on it. But it feels very good to be putting out new music.”
Fans might feel a bit confused with all this mixed information.
The festival organizers were optimistic, saying the new album would drop by June when the band hits the stage. But Murphy warned everyone that this timeline isn’t set in stone.
Clearing the Air
Murphy cleared things up further, explaining that there’s no finished album yet. “No, there’s no finished LP yet. But when we’re not playing shows, it’s getting closer and closer to completion,” he said. “So that’s the news. Anything else you hear is bullshit speculation.”
For now, fans can look forward to a special edition release of “X-Ray Eyes.” The band plans to offer some silkscreened 12-inch records during their Los Angeles and New York residencies, with a wider release planned when possible.
