The Singer’s Debut Solo Album Coming Soon
Lauren Mayberry, known for her role in Chvrches, has just released a solo song called “Something in the Air,†which she previewed live last month before its debut on BBC Radio 1.
In the song, she sings, “You come up with your stories/ conspiracy theories of why we’re all here/ oh, I just want to be someone/ someone who’s happy/ but why do you even care?â€
Lauren mentioned that this song came out of nowhere while she was working with Dan McDougall. They were taking a break when a famous British musician started talking about electricity and 5G making people sick. This led them to chat about why folks believe in such theories, and suddenly, the chorus popped into her mind.
Fans love seeing artists create from everyday moments.
Her song “Something in the Air†is part of her upcoming album, Vicious Creature, which will be out later this year. She got inspiration from ’90s icons like Tori Amos and PJ Harvey and also ’90s girl groups like All Saints and Sugababes.
The new single comes after other songs like “Change Shapes,†“Shame,†and “Are You Awake?†which will also be on the album. Last summer, Lauren shared that she would leave Chvrches to start her solo career.
“There would be lyrics or concepts that I had come up with over the last couple of years and then thought that I couldn’t do in a Chvrches song,†she told NME. “These are things that I just need to say from my point of view. Obviously, I’m the narrator in Chvrches, but you’re still speaking on behalf of a group.â€
Some days feel like they fly by. Other times, they drag.
