Kelly’s New Year Kickoff
Kelly Clarkson has chosen to start 2025 by singing one of the most popular songs from the previous year. During her talk show, she decided to cover “Too Sweet,” a song by Hozier from his EP Unheard.
Decked out in a simple black dress, she sang with My Band Y’all. Her voice carried a rocky vibe thanks to a special filter. As she performed, you could hear the lyrics about whiskey, coffee, and beds at three. The message was clear: “You’re too sweet for me.”
Clarkson shared her thoughts about the tune and its creator. She said she adored the song and thought the Irish artist behind it was pretty awesome. “He’s a badass. He’s so cool. I love him,” she expressed.
Hozier had also performed the same song on Saturday Night Live at the end of last year. It quickly climbed to the top of the Hot 100 chart, marking a significant milestone since his hit “Take Me to Church” had reached second place over ten years ago. It’s interesting how time changes things, isn’t it?
Earlier, in an interview, Hozier mentioned he almost didn’t release the track. He’d recorded it while working on Unreal Unearth, but initially, he left it off the album. Reflecting on his decision, he said, “Maybe it’s the pessimist in me. I was like, ‘People don’t want to hear this stuff, we’ll just put it away.’” Eventually, it found its way onto the Unheard EP, along with other hidden gems.
Fans find it quite exciting when artists share unreleased songs that almost didn’t make it.
Clarkson wrapped up 2024 with covers of other artists’ songs like Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please.” She also got into the holiday spirit by performing Christmas tunes like “Sweet December” and “Run Run Rudolph” throughout December.
