Muna has been riding a wave of creativity in recent years.
Their 2022 hit "Silk Chiffon" became a streaming sensation, celebrating queer love. It was one of the standout tracks from their self-titled album released under Phoebe Bridgers’ label. This summer, the band had an exciting moment when Alanis Morissette invited them onstage to perform "Ironic."
Katie Gavin, from Muna, announced last month that her first solo album, "What a Relief," would come out on October 25. She described the album’s lead single, “Aftertaste,†as a sweet folk-pop tune. Gavin said the album deals with her deep desire for connection and the obstacles she faced, capturing it all honestly.
And last week in Los Angeles, Gavin joined the Japanese House on stage, performing “Morning Pages†from Bain’s debut album. She returned for an encore, and they played “Inconsolable,†a song from Gavin’s upcoming album. Bain praised it highly, calling it “the best song ever written,†according to her, her girlfriend, and her best friend. The song has a country feel and fits the introspective tone Gavin calls “Lilith Fair-core.â€
Fans must be excited for what’s next!
At the Newport Folk Festival last month, Gavin also debuted another collaboration, "As Good As It Gets," with indie-rock favorite Mitski. Since Mitski wasn’t there, Naomi McPherson from MUNA filled in.
Gavin’s tour to promote "What a Relief" will kick off in November.
