Janet Jackson Raises Questions About Kamala Harris’ Heritage
In a recent interview, Janet Jackson seemed unsure about Kamala Harris being Black.
During the chat with The Guardian, when asked about the upcoming election and the possibility of America having its first Black female president, she responded with uncertainty. “Well, you know what they supposedly said?” she questioned. “She’s not Black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.”
It appeared she wasn’t aware that Harris is both Black and Indian, something the reporter had to clarify. Jackson seemed confused and added, “Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days.”
Of course, these claims are false. Harris’ dad is from Jamaica, and her mom was from India. The Guardian noted that people questioning Harris’ heritage are often conspiracy theorists, but it was unclear where Jackson got this misinformation from.
Back in July, Donald Trump also made comments about Harris’ race. “I’ve known her a long time indirectly,†he said. “She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black.†He implied she might have “become Black” for political reasons.
The Guardian also asked Jackson if she thought America was ready for Harris. She answered, “Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really, truthfully, don’t know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.â€
Fans are left wondering why there is so much confusion about Harris’ background.
