Jane’s Addiction Cancels Tour
Jane’s Addiction has decided to call off their first tour in 14 years after a fight broke out between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro during a performance.
On social media, they shared the news, saying, “The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.” Refunds will be given at the point of purchase.
Navarro, along with Stephen Perkins and Eric Avery, posted a message explaining that the tour was canceled due to Farrell’s ongoing behavior issues and mental health struggles.
They added, “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs. We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.”
Fans feel disappointed but understand the decision.
The fight happened on Sept. 13 in Boston during “Ocean Size.” According to JamBase, Farrell yelled at Navarro during “Mountain Song” and kept arguing through “Three Days.” During “Ocean Size,” Farrell got upset, walked up to Navarro, and shoved him. He continued yelling and eventually hit Navarro on the shoulder.
A crew member tried to calm Farrell down, and when he tried to go after Navarro again, more crew members and bassist Eric Avery had to step in. Farrell was taken backstage, and Navarro left the stage soon after. The show ended early after about 11 songs instead of the usual 14 or 15.
Reports say tensions had been rising since their reunion tour started in August. Farrell’s lengthy talks with the audience seemed to annoy Navarro.
After the Boston incident, Jane’s Addiction apologized to fans and canceled their Sept. 15 show in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The tour was supposed to continue until the end of September.
