Nicko McBrain’s Farewell to Touring
Iron Maiden’s drummer, Nicko McBrain, shared that he is stepping away from touring, with his last performance happening in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
He mentioned, “After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy, I announce my decision to take a step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle. Today, Sat, Dec 7th, Sao Paulo will be my final gig with Iron Maiden. I wish the band much success moving forward.” His journey with them began in 1982.
Reflecting on his time with the band, McBrain expressed gratitude to the fans, saying, “What can I say? Touring with Maiden the last 42 years has been an incredible journey! To my devoted fan base, you made it all worthwhile and I love you!” We really feel for the fans who have followed him for so long.
Though he won’t tour anymore, he assured everyone he’s not leaving the Iron Maiden family. He plans to work on various projects and businesses but won’t be drumming for tours anymore.
McBrain looks forward to the future with excitement, saying, “I look into the future with much excitement and great hope! I’ll be seeing you soon, may God bless you all, and, of course, ‘Up the Irons!’”
In recent times, McBrain faced health challenges, including a stroke in 2023, which temporarily affected his ability to play drums. Yet, after hard work and therapy, he managed to join the band for The Future Past Tour, ending with the Sao Paulo show.
The band, sharing their thoughts, thanked McBrain for his immense contribution over 42 years, stating, “Thank you for being an irrepressible force behind the drum kit for Maiden for 42 years and my friend for even longer. I speak on behalf of all the band when I say we will miss you immensely!”
They added how special it is to conclude this chapter in Brazil, recalling fond memories and the strong connection with the country. They said, “Ever since Rock in Rio in 1985 we have had a special relationship with Brazil so to bow out of touring in front of 90,000 fans here in Sao Paulo over 2 nights is poetic and you are deserving of all the accolades I am sure these marvellous fans will give you on this last show.”
Looking ahead, Iron Maiden plans to kick off their Run for Your Lives World Tour in 2025, likely with a new drummer joining them by then.
