The BBC Children in Need charity is bringing Girls Aloud back together for a special cause with a new single dedicated to Sarah Harding.
Girls Aloud’s Emotional Tribute
For the first time in over a decade, the group is reuniting musically to release “I’ll Stand by You (Sarah’s Version)” on November 15 as a heartfelt tribute to Sarah, who passed away in 2021. Nadine Coyle expressed that it’s a wonderful way to remember both Sarah and their long connection with the charity.
The song features Cheryl, Nicola, Kimberley, and Nadine, highlighting Sarah’s contributions in a fresh take on the Pretenders’ classic from 1994. Chrissie Hynde, who created the original track, said it was lovely to hear Sarah’s voice taking the lead in this version for the charity.
Fans find it touching when artists use their music to honor loved ones in such a meaningful way.
Looking Back at Their Journey
The release date of the new version aligns with the 20th anniversary of Girls Aloud’s cover of the song, which became a chart-topping hit back in 2004. This marks the first posthumous release involving Sarah since she died from cancer complications and the first official release by the group since their 2012 album, *Ten*.
A Long-Awaited Comeback
Girls Aloud first formed in 2002 on a reality show and had their last concert together in 2013. After a long break, they reunited this year for a tour in the UK and Ireland, where they honored Sarah by featuring videos and images of her during performances of “I’ll Stand by You.”
The new version’s music video will debut during the BBC Children in Need concert special, premiering on the same day as the single.
