Foreigner Discovers Turning Back the Time for Rock Hall

Foreigner Celebrates Rock Hall Induction with New Track

To mark their entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Foreigner released a new song titled "Turning Back the Time."

Lou Gramm and Mick Jones are back with a tune that looks at the past, name-dropping the Beatles’ 1964 TV gig and the band’s own late Seventies moments like "Double Vision."

In a chat with Billboard, Jones mentioned that the song was first made in 1996 with Marti Frederiksen. They felt it was perfect timing to share it now because of their induction. “The sentiment of the song spoke to us now more than ever, and with the upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, we thought it an ideal time to let the world hear it,” he said.

"Turning Back the Time" will also be the title of their new album, dropping October 4 through Rhino. Jones hopes the songs on this collection mean as much to everyone else as they do to him.

Sometimes, fans feel really connected to the music of their favorite bands.

This year’s Rock Hall ceremony is on October 19 in Cleveland. Other inductees include Cher, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, A Tribe Called Quest, Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton, and Kool & The Gang.

Foreigner’s been eligible since 2002 but hadn’t made it until now. Mark Ronson, Jones’ stepson, pushed for their inclusion, getting support from Dave Grohl, Slash, Jack Black, Chad Smith, and Josh Homme. “You want to know what love is? Love is putting Foreigner in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Homme said.

The induction could reunite Foreigner’s classic lineup. Gramm last left in 2003, and Jones retired recently due to Parkinson’s. The current band has no original members.

Editor’s picks

“I think it’s gonna be fantastic,” Gramm told Rolling Stone in April. He’s excited they’re finally part of the Hall, having wondered for years why they weren’t even nominated before. "Justice has been done," he added.
