Theo Lengyel’s Future Hinges on Upcoming Sentencing
Theo Lengyel might spend the rest of his life in jail after a jury found him guilty of murder.
The Santa Cruz jury only needed a day to decide he was guilty of killing his girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, last December. Police arrested him on January 3, after she went missing a month earlier. Herrmann’s body was later discovered in Tilden Regional Park, and her car was seen near Theo’s house.
At first, Theo didn’t help with the investigation, which made him suspicious. The most important evidence came from an audio recording on Herrmann’s phone. It captured them arguing, and what prosecutors said was Theo attacking her.
Fans often wonder how someone can do something so terrible.
During the trial, this audio was key. It was found late in September, right in the middle of the trial. In it, they argued because Herrmann didn’t want to go out, and Theo yelled some harsh words.
This argument, heard on the recording, turned violent, with Herrmann begging for her life.
Theo used to be part of Mr. Bungle, playing instruments like the saxophone and clarinet. He was with them for over a decade but left because the band felt he wasn’t keeping up. Trevor Dunn once mentioned that Theo got upset when he left, and they haven’t spoken since.
