The second episode of ‘Artists and Athletes’ features a country superstar chatting with a famous golfer about living their dreams.
Southern Roots
People from the South have plenty to be proud of, like delicious barbecue, big things, and cowboy culture. Justin Thomas, from Kentucky, and Eric Church, from North Carolina, know their hometowns offered rich experiences in music and golf. On a bright summer day, they met at the exclusive Troubadour Golf Club in Tennessee. It was right after Thomas’ charity event where Church had made an appearance. Thomas arrived in his electric BMW i7, joining Church on the course. Despite different careers, they’re friends who share success stories and passion for what they do.
Country Music Success
Church’s music career is impressive, with five platinum albums and sold-out tours. He wrote his first song at 13, though he admits it wasn’t great. Moving to Nashville as a teen kicked off his real journey. His drive and his dad’s support played big roles in where he is now.
Fans think it’s amazing how dedication can lead to such achievements.
Golfing Greatness
Thomas, a top golfer from Kentucky, is ranked 29th worldwide. Before turning 30, he joined a rare group of golfers with major wins. His father, a golf pro, greatly influenced him. Both Church and Thomas learned early that hard work pays off. Thomas recalls late nights helping his dad at the club, showing his strong work ethic. Now, his success lets him enjoy luxury, like driving a fancy car with a huge screen, perfect for relaxing rides.
Blending Passions
Did music ever meet golf for these two? Church started playing golf in high school when he realized he could leave class early for the sport. “The teacher would say ‘golfers are excused’ and they would get up…and I was like ‘I wanna do that’…so I made it to the golf team,” he shared, making Thomas chuckle. Though music took him away from the game, he’s catching up now, often visiting the golf club from Nashville.
