Dolly Parton Reveals New Smoky Mountain DNA Songs

Dolly Parton has released two new songs from her upcoming project Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables, and revealed a 37-song track list.

The title track, which she wrote, highlights her family’s musical roots and heritage.

She also brought back "A Rose Won’t Fix It," initially intended for her 1988 album but never included. This time, her niece Heidi is the lead singer while Dolly sings backup.

Rolling Stone mentioned that Smoky Mountain DNA is all about family, with cousin Richie Owens producing and various family members contributing, including audio from relatives who have passed away, like her granddad Reverend Jake Owens.

“I cannot believe that it has been 60 years this month since I graduated from Sevier County High School and moved to Nashville to pursue my dreams,” Parton shared in a statement. “My Uncle Bill Owens was by my side for many years helping me develop my music. I owe so much to him and all the family members past and present who have inspired me along this journey. I am honored to spotlight our families’ musical legacy that is my Smoky Mountain DNA.”

It’s nice to see how family can be such a big part of one’s work and passion.

Coming out on November 15, Smoky Mountain DNA will also feature a four-part docuseries. You can preorder it now, and there’s even a special "Appalachian Autumn" vinyl edition, limited to 3,363 copies, symbolizing her Tennessee Mountain Home’s coordinates.
