Dolly Parton Shares a Surprising Family Connection with Miley Cyrus
Dolly Parton recently revealed that she and Miley Cyrus are actually related by blood.
Parton, who many know as "Aunt Dolly" from Hannah Montana, discovered through ancestry research that she shares a distant relative with Miley. Their common ancestor was born in the 1700s, making Parton a sixth great-granddaughter and Cyrus a seventh great-granddaughter. When talking to Access Hollywood, Parton mentioned how this news wasn’t shocking because she always felt like Miley was family.
“We’re so close, Miley and I,†Parton said about their bond. “I would’ve thought we’d have been at least third cousins, 10 times removed. I’m sure she’ll get a kick out of that.â€
Both stars trace their lineage back to John Brickey, who was born in 1740 and moved from Virginia to Blount County, Tennessee. This connection means they are seventh cousins, once removed.
This family discovery comes while Parton is busy with a new project called Smoky Mountain DNA — Family, Faith & Fables. The project, set to release on November 15, includes music and visuals celebrating her family’s heritage. Her cousin Richie Owens produced it, her niece Heidi Parton sings on a track, and even her late grandfather Reverend Jake Owens has contributions in some songs. Alongside the album, Parton will also release a four-part docuseries about her musical roots.
“I cannot believe that it has been 60 years this month since I graduated from Sevier County High School and moved to Nashville to pursue my dreams,†Parton shared earlier. “My Uncle Bill Owens was by my side for many years helping me develop my music. I owe so much to him and all the family members past and present who have inspired me along this journey. I am honored to spotlight our families’ musical legacy that is my Smoky Mountain DNA.â€
Fans think it’s really cool to see how connected these two stars are.
