David Gilmour Performs Wish You Were Here at UK Bar

David Gilmour surprised a few lucky folks at the Neptune Live Music Bar in East Sussex by joining his daughter Romany on stage for an acoustic version of “Wish You Were Here.”

He shared a short clip of the performance online, saying he enjoyed crashing Romany’s gig after finishing up tour rehearsals.

Romany started performing with her dad during the pandemic. The Gilmour family made videos to promote Polly Samson’s novel, A Theatre For Dreamers. Later, David invited Romany to sing “Between Two Points” for his new album, Luck and Strange.

“She must have heard the song once or twice in her life on our playlists, but she didn’t really know it at all,” Gilmour told Rolling Stone in August. “I just gave her the lyrics on a piece of paper and stuck her in front of her mic. She’s a true pro with the microphone, has been since she was three. And basically the vocal that you hear on that track is her first take all the way. I mean, obviously there’s a tiny bit of repair and stuff going on, but basically that’s what it is.”

It’s always cool seeing family jam together!

Romany will join her dad on some of the Luck and Strange tour dates, though they haven’t decided which ones yet since she’s busy with university in London.

When Gilmour first talked about the tour, he said he probably wouldn’t play any Seventies Pink Floyd songs. But now, he’s changed his mind. “One has to wake up to reality once in a while,” he explained. “I think I will be doing one or two things from that time, but it just seems so long ago. I know people love them, and I love playing them. I’ll be doing ‘Wish You Were Here,’ of course I will. And some of the things that started with me anyway.”

The tour starts on September 27 in Rome and hits the U.S. on October 25 in Los Angeles, ending with five shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
