Surprise Acoustic Set in Central Park
The 2024 Global Citizen Festival lit up New York’s Central Park with performances by Post Malone, Jelly Roll, Doja Cat, and Lisa from Blackpink, but the real surprise was an unannounced acoustic set by Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin.
Kicking off with Coldplay’s “Yellow†sung by Sheeran, the duo then turned “Shape of You†into a duet. It was unexpected and thrilling for the audience.
With acoustic guitars, they continued with “Viva la Vida†where Martin added some monkey sounds as a tribute to Dr. Jane Goodall. The set ended with Sheeran playing “Thinking of You†on the piano.
“I’d like to say how impressed I’ve been all day watching you be an incredible audience in the most challenging of circumstances,†Martin told the rain-soaked crowd.
Fans love when artists go beyond what’s expected, like this surprise.
“You make our lives so great, and thank you for being here in the rain and giving it your all. And thank you to our young brother, superstar Ed Sheeran. And thank you to Post Malone for letting us open for him. I hope we get the gig,†Martin continued.
This year’s festival also featured performances by Raye, Benson Boone, and Rauw Alejandro, with appearances from Hugh Jackman, Dr. Jane Goodall, Bill Nye, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
