The Chicks Sing National Anthem at DNC
The Chicks sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Democratic National Convention.
Natalie, Martie, and Emily stood in front of an American flag and sang the anthem on the final night. They were part of a line-up that included speeches by Kamala Harris, Gretchen Whitmer, Roy Cooper, Mark Kelly, and Gabby Giffords.
Their performance was quite special considering their past. Back in 2003, they faced huge backlash for criticizing President George W. Bush and the Iraq War. Natalie said, “We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.†This led to their music being pulled from country radio stations, and even Lipton dropped them as sponsors.
Fans still remember how brave they were during that time.
They also performed the anthem virtually in 2020 during the pandemic.
That Thursday, Pink was seen doing a soundcheck with her daughter. The night had performances by many others like Stevie Wonder, Maren Morris, Patti Labelle, Common, and Lil Jon.
Harris got a lot of support from famous folks like Cardi B, Barbra Streisand, and Charli XCX, who started a meme by calling her a “brat”.
