Cher Settles Conservatorship Dispute With Son Elijah Blue Allman

Settlement Reached Between Cher and Elijah Blue Allman

Cher has decided to stop her legal fight for conservatorship over her son, Elijah Blue Allman, after they came to a private agreement.

Gabrielle Vidal, Cher’s lawyer, informed the court that they resolved the matter with the help of two private judges during mediation. She added that Cher wanted to drop the case but could refile it later if needed. This comes after Cher initially sought control over Elijah’s finances last December, citing his mental health and substance abuse issues.

When the judge asked if the case was indeed settled, Elijah’s lawyer, Steven K. Brumer, confirmed it was true.

Judge Jessica Uzcategui then said, “I don’t have the documents, but I can accept your representation on behalf of your client that she seeks to withdraw the petition. I will deny the petition without prejudice,” adding her congratulations to everyone involved.

After the court decision, Elijah’s law firm said, “This outcome allows the parties to focus on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues today.”

Cher and Elijah did not attend the brief hearing in Los Angeles. They had earlier paused their public court fight in May to try to settle things privately.

Back in January, Cher’s lawyers pushed for emergency control over Elijah’s finances before a distribution from his father’s estate. That request was denied to give Elijah more time to respond. Cher joined a later hearing by video but was again denied conservatorship powers.

Fans might feel relieved that they are trying to work things out peacefully.

Elijah, who is 48, showed up in person at both hearings and opposed his mom’s petition. By March, Cher got a delay to gather medical records, offering to pay for private mediation if Elijah agreed. “Cher would very much like the opportunity to make sure she’s taken every possible step to try to resolve this informally,” Vidal told the court.

Cher’s lawyers expressed fear for Elijah’s safety due to his addiction and mental health issues, which sometimes led to psychosis. Vidal mentioned that Elijah had been hospitalized involuntarily several times, including in September 2023, and said Cher was scared for his life and worried he couldn’t manage his $120,000 yearly inheritance safely.

“The concern is that if he gets this distribution into his hands, and during a period of stress, that that will lead to the drug use. This proceeding was filed because Cher was told unequivocally by the doctors treating him, that if she did not take this step as his mother, the concern was that he would once again end up on the street,” Vidal previously told the court.

Judge Uzcategui acknowledged Cher’s concern in January but said worries alone weren’t enough evidence to grant emergency control. However, she didn’t dismiss the main petition.

Elijah admitted to his addiction struggles but reported negative drug and alcohol tests in January. He also rented a new home and started hiring a business manager. “In the two weeks since the initial hearing, I have been successfully managing my income and expenses and have refrained from the use of illicit substances that have historically caused the incidents that have given rise to my mother’s concern,” he wrote. “I am doing well and do not need the help that my mother is offering.”

Throughout the case, Cher’s lawyers stated that she only wanted to protect her son. Her initial filing said, “Petitioner has worked tirelessly to get Elijah into treatment and get him the help he needs. Petitioner loves Elijah immensely and has always acted with his best interests in mind.”
