Chappell Roan Stands Against Harassment

Chappell Roan Speaks Out Against Harassment

Chappell Roan is firmly against any form of harassment or stalking, no matter how well-known she becomes. On Monday, she took to TikTok with a couple of videos to call out the disturbing behavior she’s been experiencing from some followers.

“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever,” she said. “I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, or the career field I’ve chosen, that does not make it OK. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it. That doesn’t mean that I like it.”

Roan made it clear she doesn’t want anything from those who feel entitled to her time or personal space. “I don’t want whatever the fuck you think you’re supposed to be entitled to. Whenever you see a celebrity, fuck if you think it’s selfish for me to say no for a photo or for your time, or for a hug,” Roan continued. “That’s not normal. That’s weird. It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make. That’s fucking weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior.”

It remains uncertain what specific incident Roan referred to in her posts, but she advised fans not to jump to conclusions about who she might be talking about. There’s been online chatter among her supporters about a fan update account administrator’s behavior.

Roan first shared a video on Monday where she described a scenario involving a fan who allegedly yelled at her from a car and harassed her when she refused to take a photo with them. “Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online?” she asked. “This is a lady you don’t know and she doesn’t know you at all. Would you assume that she’s a good person? Assume she’s a bad person? Would you assume everything you read about her online is true?”

People should respect boundaries.

“I’m a random bitch. You’re a random bitch. Just think about that for a second, OK?” she added.

Last month, Roan told Drew Afualo how she had to slow down her activities because of fans acting like stalkers. She mentioned some fans even knew where her family lived and worked. If she ever felt her family was truly in danger, she said she’d quit.

“If [I felt] stalker vibes [or] like [if my] family was in danger is when I would quit,” Roan said. “And we’re there, we’re there. So, I’m just kind of in this battle, I’ve like pumped the brakes on honestly anything to make me more known. It’s kind of a forest fire right now … I’m not trying to go do a bunch of shit.”

Roan’s career has been on a fast track since her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, came out in 2023. She’s been open about the challenges of sudden fame. During a June concert, she expressed feeling overwhelmed by her career’s rapid pace. “I feel a little off today, because I think my career is going really fast and it’s hard to keep up,” she shared onstage.
