Chappell Roan Sets Boundaries Amid Rising Fame
Chappell Roan is feeling more love but also the most unsafe she has ever felt.
She’s been talking about creepy harassment and stalker behavior, sharing her thoughts in a long Instagram post last Friday.
Roan turned off comments on her post, saying, “I’m not looking for anyone’s response. This isn’t a group conversation. I understand that this is jarring to hear from a person in my position. I’m not afraid of the consequences for demanding respect.â€
“For the past 10 years I’ve been non-stop to build my project,†she wrote, “and it’s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries. I want to be an artist for a very very long time. I’ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you shit.â€
Roan said she chose music because she loves it and wants to honor her inner child, not to accept harassment. She doesn’t think she deserves any bad treatment just because of her career path.
When she’s performing or doing press, she says she’s at work. Outside of those times, she wants her personal space respected. “I am clocked out,†she emphasized.
She expressed her wish to enjoy life like anyone else. “Please stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends. Please stop assuming things about me. There is always more to the story. I am scared and tired.â€
In a TikTok video, Roan said she doesn’t care if abuse and harassment are normal for famous people. She rejects the idea that bad behavior should come with her job.
Fans feel concerned about her safety and well-being.
“There is a part of myself that I save just for my project and all of you,†she concluded in her statement. “There is a part of myself that is just for me, and I don’t want that taken away from me.â€
