Chappell Roan’s Thoughts on Acting

You won’t catch Chappell Roan acting anytime soon.

In a chat with Bowen Yang for Interview Magazine, she shared that the idea of being in movies freaks her out. “I say this with peace, and love, and blessings. Actors are fucking crazy,” she said. She also added, “I’ve been asked in the past couple of weeks, like, ‘You want the lead in XYZ?’ and I’m like, ‘No.'”

Roan started with music to get into acting but soon realized it wasn’t for her after moving to Los Angeles. “I appreciate it, but literally, no. I originally started doing music because I wanted to get my foot in the door for acting, and then I moved to Los Angeles, and I was like, ‘Fuck that,’” she admitted. “The industry is legitimately so scary, and it is so out of my control.”

We get it, choosing your path matters.

She enjoys having control over her music career instead. “I can put out music whenever I want,” she explained. “I don’t have to wait for a casting director to be like, ‘It would be great if we cast you, and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months.’”

Though she doesn’t want major roles, Roan hinted she might do a small part if it’s just right. It has to be “really specific and really silly” for her to consider it.

“I’ve been trained how to act, but it’s the most stressful thing in the world to me,” she revealed. She even joked, “I would rather get arrested… because I know how to operate myself in jail.”

For her, it’s all about finding the perfect moment and project. “It would really have to be the right thing and the right timing,” she concluded.
