Bon Iver’s first new music in five years is featured on their upcoming EP, Sable.
New Music Video
Justin Vernon expresses his pain clearly in the video for Bon Iver’s new single, "Speyside." In this black-and-white video by Erinn Springer, he’s lying on a bed, looking hurt, and singing, “Nothing’s really happened like I thought it would.†Another scene shows him wading into the ocean in a peacoat and fedora, singing, “I can’t rest on no dynasty, man, what is wrong with me?†His guitar and a viola play in the background. His loneliness is felt in every note.
The EP Release
The song "Speyside" is an apology Vernon wrote in 2021 to people he hurt. It’s one of three tracks on the EP called Sable, coming out on October 18th. This will be Bon Iver’s first release in about five years.

During a concert in London a couple of years ago, Vernon played this song. “When I made this song, I was feeling a lot of guilt, which is an important emotion to have,†he said then. “It’s also an important emotion to put yourself past. The day I wrote it, I got a little drunk on rum and sent it to a couple of friends who are here tonight. I’m thankful to have a friend to send a song to. You can’t just put that shit on MySpace anymore!â€
Fans always look forward to new music from their favorite artists.
Recording Process
From 2020 to 2023, Vernon recorded these songs at April Base in Wisconsin. He worked with Jim-E Stack on production, and Rob Moose played the viola.
Previous Releases
The last time Bon Iver released music was in 2020 with singles "AUATC" and "PDLIF." That same year, Vernon also performed "Exile" with Taylor Swift, a song from her Folklore album.
