Bob Dylan to Cover Don’t Fence Me In for Reagan Biopic

Bob Dylan Sings for Reagan Biopic

Bob Dylan is set to perform “Don’t Fence Me In” in a new Ronald Reagan movie.

Dennis Quaid stars as Reagan, and the film will include Gene Simmons singing “Stormy Weather” and Clint Black doing “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” This news was shared by Spin.

The song “Don’t Fence Me In” became famous through singers like Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, who happens to be Quaid’s distant relative. Dylan’s version will be heard during the movie’s end credits.

Quaid expressed his excitement about Dylan’s involvement: “I was honored to have Bob join our film. We gave him the freedom to do any song he wanted to do, whether an original or a cover, and he chose ‘Don’t Fence Me In.’ That was extra special since it was a song that Gene made famous. Bob is a great lover of the American Songbook and we were delighted with the way he delivered the song. He’s a national treasure and was the perfect addition to the film.”

Fans are thrilled to see Dylan contributing to such a project.

Previously, Quaid and Dylan collaborated on the Bear and a Banjo podcast, with Quaid narrating and Dylan writing lyrics.

Although the Reagan film was shot over three years ago, it’s now getting released. It features actors like Jon Voight, Kevin Sorbo, Nick Searcy, Robert Davi, and even Scott Stapp from Creed playing Frank Sinatra. Dylan’s involvement might seem odd given his past comments, but he doesn’t let politics drive his choices.

“I think politics is an instrument of the Devil. Just that clear. I think politics is what kills; it doesn’t bring anything alive. Politics is corrupt; I mean, anybody knows that,” Dylan remarked.

“How long is Reagan gonna be president? I’ve seen like four or five of ’em myself, you know? And I’ve seen two of ’em die in office. How can you deal with Reagan and get so serious about that, when the man isn’t even gonna be there when you get your thing together?”
