Big Sean Says He and Kendrick Lamar Settled Beef Years Ago

“He changed that on his own. He probably came to the conclusion it was nothing,” Sean said about the scrapped “Element” lyrics from a 2019 leak.

Old Feuds and New Beginnings

Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar settled their rumored beef years ago, Sean revealed to Charlamagne Tha God in a recent interview.

In a chat with Charlamagne just before releasing his album Better Me Than You, Sean remembered Lamar’s diss in a leaked version of “Element” from Damn. Lamar had cut the verse before the album came out in 2017, but the leaked version suggested Sean was more famous for who he dated than his music.

“That song came out and he changed that bar, it wasn’t on the song anymore, it was a leaked verse,” Sean explained. “I had to keep that in mind because I was pissed when I heard it. He changed that on his own. He probably came to the conclusion it was nothing.”

Sean even showed Charlamagne their text messages where they discussed the track further.

“He apologized in a sense for going that far to that shit coming out,” Sean said. “When that shit leaks, people are like, ‘Oh, you heard what he said about you?” I’m not a clout-chasing ass n—a, I’m solid and I stand on mine. We already talked about it, I already got an apology for it.”

I think it’s nice when people can resolve their issues peacefully.

Early Struggles

During the interview, Sean also talked about his tough times dealing with depression and doubting if he’d make it as a rapper. He even applied to community college just in case.

“I remember my mom being like, ‘What are you doing?,’ and it was a moment,” Sean said, getting emotional as he thought about his mom encouraging him to chase his dreams. “It could’ve went either way. I’m just thankful I had these guardian angels in my life like my mom.”
